Over Mother’s Day weekend, temperatures are predicted to rise, providing Calgary residents with the ideal excuse to leave the house and take advantage of one of the numerous events the city has to offer.

This Friday marks the return of the Inglewood Night Market, which promises 135 merchants, live music, and a beer garden. There are three pet-specific merchants at the all-ages market, which is a pet-friendly event.

Stars on Ice

The best skaters in the world perform on Stars on Ice. There are ticket choices for meet and greets, Q&As, and the chance to watch the skaters warm up. The show honors talent, passion, and artistry.

Where: Scotiabank Saddledome

When: Friday, 7:30 p.m.

Cost: $45-150+

The Men’s Expo

The Men’s Expo is open to everyone, regardless of the event title. It’s a trade exhibition featuring vehicles, fashion, wellness, sports, and more. Samples of beer and liquor will also be available, along with live wrestling. Every ticket purchased raises $1 toward the study of prostate cancer.

Calgary Reads Big Book Sale

This weekend is the 20th anniversary celebration of the Calgary Reads Big Book Sale. The first two days of the event are so popular that you have to make an appointment to attend. More than 175,000 books, the majority for less than $5, will be available for purchase.

Where: Calgary Curling Club

When: Friday and Saturday, 9a.m.-8p.m. with appointment. Sunday, 9a.m-5p.m., no appointment needed

Cost: Friday and Saturday: $5. Sunday: $3. Fees added to purchase on exit.

Ota fest

Ota fest, a festival of Japanese animation and popular culture, is selling out on Saturday. Tickets are still available for the Friday and Sunday events. Cosplay competitions, anime screenings, special guest performances, and more are all planned for the festival.

Where: Calgary Telus Convention Centre and Marriott Downtown hotel

When: Friday and Saturday, 10a.m.- midnight. Sunday, 10 a.m.-10 p.m.

Cost: Youth: $16.73. Adult: $48.20. Children under 5: free
